Jim Sullivan, Training Director for Central Florida Electrical JATC since 1987, has 36 years in the electrical industry. He has held many positions in the electrical field including superintendent, general foreman, foreman, high voltage cable splicer, welder, journeyman electrician and apprentice electrician. He taught as a part-time instructor in the apprenticeship program before assuming a full time teaching position with the apprenticeship program.

His formal education includes a Master of Education from University of Central Florida, a B. S. degree in Vocational Education from UCF, an A.A. from Valencia Community College, Certificate of Completion for The National Instructor Training Institute from University of Tennessee and an Apprenticeship Certificate from Central Florida Electrical JATC.

He is currently the chairman of the National Education Committee for the NETDA and chairman for the Florida Apprenticeship Conference. He sits on several advisory committees for vocational education in Central Florida and an advisory committee to the National Training Institute/University of Tennessee.

Janet Skipper holds the position of Assistant Training Director for Central Florida JATC since 1989.  She graduated from the Central Florida JATC in 1985 as the third female to complete this program.  She passed the Florida Electrical Masters’ Contractors exam in 1986 and married Gary Skipper that same year.  After working as an Electrician in the field for nine years, Jim Sullivan, Training Director, recruited her as his Assistant Training Director.  Janet earned her Advance Level Training Teaching Certification with Orange County Public Schools as an Instructor.  She has been elected to attend the last four IBEW Conventions by the members of IBEW Local 606.  In 1995 the NETDA welcomed Janet Skipper as their first female journeyman member of NETDA.  She was unable to attend the Conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming that year, she was too pregnant to fly!

Janet has served on the electrical training ALLIANCE Education Committee and 2014 NTI Women’s Symposium.  Janet was appointed to the 2008 National Electrical Code Panel #2 for a three-year term.  Janet is the Chair of the Test Generator Committee for the electrical training ALLIANCE since 2009.   In 2014 she received the NTI’s 25th Special Edition Watch presented to her at the opening ceremony by Michael Callanan.   Janet has served as the NETDA Show and Tell Chairman. 

Janet and Gary have been married for thirty-two years; living two miles from where they grew up.  They have two children Taylor and Ethan, both kids attended the same schools Janet and Gary attended.  Each year Janet participates at NTI in the 5K Electric Bolt fundraiser for Alzheimer Disease and A.J. Pierson’s Golf Tournament; playing 36 holes that day. 


Juan Santos is a second generation electrician. Juan started in the trade working summers while still in high school for an electrical contractor in Houston Texas. Juan formally joined the apprenticeship program in 1989 and excelled to achieve his Journeyman License in 1993; in 1994 he completed the apprenticeship program. Today he has over twenty years experience in the field, seven of those years has been working as Lead Instructor for the Central FL Electrical JATC. Juan also has a degree in business from Southern College and a Master Instructor from the National Training Institute/University of Tennessee. Among other things Juan has achieved certifications in Photovoltaic, Who’s who Among Junior Colleges, State of Florida District Teacher’s certificate, OSHA U.S. Department of Labor outreach trainer.
